Wohnhaus im Bergdorf Mealha, Serra do Caldeirão, Algarve | In der Nähe des Dorfes Mealha im Hinterland der Algarve (Serra do Caldeirão) befinden sich seltene architektonische Zeitzeugen: die traditionellen Rundhäuser, lokal auch Palheiros de Veio genannt.Architektur und Geschichte. Diese kreisförmigen Gebäude zeichnen sich durch massive Steinwände und kegelförmige Dächer aus, die traditionell mit Stroh oder Schilf gedeckt wurden. Ihre Bauweise reicht bis in das Mittelalter oder sogar in prähistorische Zeiten zurück und erinnert an eisenzeitliche Siedlungen. Ursprünglich dienten sie als Unterstände für Hirten oder zur Lagerung von landwirtschaftlichen Erzeugnissen wie Heu und Getreide. Mealha gilt als eines der typischen Bergdörfer der Region Tavira und ist ein idealer Ausgangspunkt, um diese Bauwerke zu entdecken. Der Masmorra-Wanderweg (PR9 TVU) führt direkt an den Rundhäusern vorbei und verbindet sie mit weiteren historischen Stätten wie dem Dolmengrab Anta da Masmorra.
